Computer Class

Welcome to Computers!  You will be taught how to use programs such as Excel, Word, Publisher, Access and PowerPoint.  To further develop your skills,  projects emphasizing the skills learned will be incorporated in the curriculum.  In addition, students in third and fourth grades will get additional instruction in keyboarding.  Students in 5th - 8th grades will be playing internet safety "games" designed to enhance online safety instruction already incorporated in the curriculum.

 

Classroom Policies and Expectations

1.  Come to class prepared.  Enter the classroom and be seated quickly.  Get drinks and use the restroom BEFORE the start of class or during individual work time.

2.  Listen while others are speaking.   Raise your hand if you have a question.

3.  Follow instructions!  Stay on task and NEVER launch a program, including Internet Explorer unless specifically told to do so by Mrs. Sikorsky

4.  Respect all equipment in the computer lab.

5.  Make sure your name is on your assignment and your assignment has printed BEFORE leaving the lab.

6.  Leave the computer lab clean.  NO FOOD OR DRINK IS ALLOWED IN THE LAB.  All trash should be thrown away.

7. Please push your chairs in before you leave.

3rd and 4th Grade         25% Keyboarding/Conduct

Extra Credit

 

There will be no extra credit in computer class; however, you are encouraged to use the computer at home to improve on the skills you learn during computer class

 

Homework

 

Generally, there will be no homework.  You are encouraged to practice the skills learned in class at home.  Adequate time will be given during class to complete assignments, provided you stay on task.  you may be required to work on a project or assignment at home if you have missed one or more classes during a unit.  Project due dates and exam dates will be posted on this website under the "Assignments" tab.

 

Makeup Work

 

It is your responsibility to make up the work you miss.  All assignments and tests/quizzes shall be made up when you return to class.

 

Extra Help/Open Lab

 

If you have any questions or would like to get extra help, please let me know.  I am generally available before and after school.

 

In addition, the lab is open every Wednesday from 2:45 - 4:00 for students in the 5th through 8th grades.  The purpose of open lab is to work on homework/projects requiring the computer or internet use.  It is not for playing games or surfing the internet.

 

Futurekids Technology Curriculum

 

The FutureKids Technology Curriculum is a grade-specific K-8 student technology curriculum with a comprehensive hands-on approach to student learning. The program's approach is sequential, activity-oriented, and correlated with ISTE National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) and appropriate state standards.

 

In the program, students apply their knowledge of computers in 10 technology areas:  applied technology, databases, desktop publishing, graphics, the Internet, multimedia, operating environments, programming, spreadsheets and word-processing.  Skills in these areas will be required to complete projects as the students explore innovative technologies, archaeological discoveries, exciting sports, global ecology and adventurous destinations.
